Every time that Autodesk releases a new version of their famous AutoCAD, they introduce some feature that eventually becomes more annoying than useful.

In the 2006 version of AutoCAD, it’s the Animated Zoom.

Autodesk resolved to add a feature which performs the zoom and view panning/rotate in a slow, animated manner so that user doesn’t lose the view context.

It doesn’t work for me! I believe that there are many of you out there that feel the same way I do, those that use AutoCAD every day, would probably do better without this innovation. Here is a way to deactivate this “great feature”:

Use the _vtoptions command to change the speed parameters of the “soft” zoom or to turn it off completely.
Change the value of the variable vtenable.

Good job, you were the top of the google list for "autocad 2006" turn off zoom.

This was the first thing I disabled in autoad 2006

I found your link because i wanted it to animate! My office copy animates, but when i installed it at home it wont. Even if I try different setting, it zooms normal. Thanks for the tip though!

I'm Fernando Salgado From Whitby, Ontario, Canada I work at a consulting company as a Structural technologist, where I use AutoCAD daily. I have used AutoCAD, off and on for about 10 years, starting with the R14 version up until the current version. I like learning new tricks, sharing my knowledge and involving myself in the "CAD" community. I've also ventured into the web design field, with my own company Chimera for a number of years. On a personal note, I was born in Mozambique, lived in Portugal from the age of three, where I studied land surveying and engineering. In 2000, I moved to Canada, where I pursued web design and it wasn't until 2004 that I went into drafting again. I'm mostly self-taught AutoCAD and make it a hobby to collect as many books on the subject as possible.
